May 13 | Welcome to Casablanca, Morocco! The intoxicating sights and sounds of Morocco await you on this epic adventure through an ancient land. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your Tour Director for your private transfer to your hotel. With the remainder of the day at leisure, delve into the intrigue and romance of Casablanca, immortalized by Hollywood. Tonight, meet your fellow travel companions for a welcome dinner in Morocco.

May 14 | Journey to Rabat, Meknès, and on to Fes. This morning, your journey continues along the coastline to the capital, Rabat. Upon arrival, embark on an orientation tour of the city, which includes views of the grand 17th-century Palace and Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Continue to the imperial city of Meknès, where you’ll see the grand gate of Bab el Mansour, one of the most impressive monumental gateways in North Africa, adorned with green and white zellij tiles. Later this afternoon, you will arrive in Fes. Tonight, enjoy a local meal featuring fine food, live music, and traditional entertainment, including belly dancing, in a spectacular Moroccan setting.

May 15 | Discover vibrant Fes.After breakfast, meet a local specialist who will take you to the Medina, one of the largest thriving medieval centers in the world. Upon arrival, partake in a Universal Travel exclusive experience at the non-profit American Fondouk, where you can speak with the volunteer veterinarians who care passionately for the welfare of the animals. See the Royal Palace and dive into culture with a visit to the round dye pits and tanneries, showcasing Morocco’s ancient leathercraft. Later, admire traditional Moroccan handiwork during a visit to a carpet cooperative. This evening, meet your fellow travelers for a special opportunity to connect with locals over dinner, featuring Moroccan specialties served with wine in a traditional riad (subject to availability).

May 16 | Erfoud and Merzouga. This morning, travel to Erfoud, where the red sand buildings stand in stark contrast against the patches of greenery and surrounding desert. Continue to Merzouga, where you’ll settle into your luxury desert camp tent. Enjoy a demonstration of medfoun (Berber pizza), a traditional stuffed bread prepared with meat, herbs, and spices by the nomadic peoples of the High Atlas. Traditionally prepared by women to feed local farm workers, this hearty delicacy is a great introduction to the cuisine of the desert region.

May 17 | Tinghir Oasis and the stunning Dades Valley. This morning, marvel at the glorious Sahara sunrise from a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Journey west and arrive in Tinghir, one of the most beautiful oases in southern Morocco, and home to the ruins of the ancient Glaoui palace. Continue through part of the Todra Gorge and cut through the mountains for one of the most dramatic views in the country. Here you’ll overnight at Xaluca Dades, surrounded by panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains (subject to availability).

May 18 | Venture through the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakesh.
Blending effortlessly into the arid landscape, Ouarzazate has provided a backdrop for famous movies such as Lawrence of Arabia, Cleopatra, and Gladiator. See the UNESCO-listed fortified village of Aït Ben Haddou in the High Atlas Mountains and continue through the Tizi-nTichka Pass to Marrakesh, also known as the Red City. Like many other former imperial cities in Morocco, Marrakesh is made up of an old fortified city, “the Medina,” and an adjacent modern city. Marrakesh is home to Morocco’s largest traditional souk (market), where you may wish to spend some time learning the art of haggling. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll savor authentic Moroccan dishes.

May 19 | Explore Marrakech. Meet the inspiring ladies of a local women’s cooperative over tea and snacks during an exclusive Universal Travel experience. Visit the ornate Bahia Palace during a city orientation with your Local Specialist and spend some time soaking up the energy of Djemaa el Fna Square in the Old Quarter, with its palm readers, storytellers, and snake charmers. Stop at the vibrant and bustling Souk Spice, offering an extensive range of spices, herbs, and blends unique to Moroccan cuisine, such as saffron, ras el hanout, and various dried fruits. The market provides an authentic glimpse into Moroccan daily life. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner in a typical Moroccan restaurant, with music and entertainment.

May 20 | Coastal Essaouria, El Jadida. After breakfast and check-out, your journey continues to the laid-back shores of Essaouira. En route, visit a cooperative that creates cosmetics from traditional ingredients. Enjoy a delicious seafood lunch before joining an orientation with your Tour Director. Journey to the port city of El Jadida, known for its unique blend of Moorish-Portuguese and French architectural influences.

May 21 | Return to Casablanca. This morning, journey north to Casablanca, where you will enjoy views of the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, built for the late King’s 60th birthday celebrations. In the evening, “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world,” there really is only one place to be. Join your Tour Director at Rick’s Café (subject to availability), recreated from the famous movie). Enjoy a hearty dinner with drinks, and no doubt a rendition of ‘As Time Goes By.’ Here’s looking at you, kid!

May 22 | Farewell to Morocco. Say goodbye to your newfound friends at the end of your Moroccan tour. Upon arrival at the airport, check in for your flight home. Fond memories of your Best of Morocco trip will last forever!
